Cape Porpoise, Maine
In June I drove through Cape Porpoise. I lived there when I was in elementary school, but I haven't been back very often since then.
I think this is Goat Island lighthouse.
I was surprised by the amount of fishing boats. I thought of it as kind of a wealthy community.

A monument to the fishermen.
A restaurant across the parking lot. I'm pretty sure it's a seafood place.

Apartment in Japan
I was just looking through my photos of Japan, and I found some pictures of my apartment in Atsugi. I lived there six years ago.
In the summer, the mountain in the distance always looked hazy and indistinct, but one day in November, I went out and I could practically count the trees.
One of the buildings across the way. It might have been a business, I can't remember.
Another house across the street. I couldn't see the house, just the entrance.
I liked to say I lived next to the river, but it wasn't a terribly impressive river.
The inside. I was told it was six tatami mats in size. My futon is on the right. When I unfolded it, it took up the entire floor. This was the only place I've lived where I made my bed every day. It came furnished, and I didn't bring much with me, so it never looked that great. Now I'd make more of an effort to fix it up.
The spacious kitchen. On the right is the door to the bathroom. If I stepped back when I was doing the dishes, sometimes I would trip and fall backwards into the bathroom. It wasn't ideal. I wasn't the first person to live here, so there was lots of extra junk the other people had left behind. Sometimes it was great, I'd think of something I needed, look around, and find it buried somewhere, and other times it was completely useless. I never did use the size 13 men's flip flops. I realized living here that I didn't need much space to live comfortably. I should say I also had a decent-sized closet and a loft that I used for storage in the summer and slept in during the winter, so it really wasn't that small. I almost prefer smaller apartments now. I feel like I have to buy stuff to fill up the extra space in large apartments. (Read More..)

Upstate New York
Last month I went to Vermont and upstate New York. It was dark and cloudy most of the time I was there, so I didn't get too many good pictures. This is Mirror Lake, in Lake Placid.
First we went to Burlington, VT, and walked around town. We managed to time it perfectly, two hours of sun between torrential rain. I wish Burlington was a bit warmer, I'd love to live there. I don't think I'd like the winters though. We took the ferry to Plattsburgh, NY and drove to Saranac Lake. The town itself seems to be built around Lake Flower. It was a cute town, but I didn't get any pictures. After that, we drove to Lake Placid. Which seems to be built next to Mirror Lake. I have to admit I find the town names confusing. There is a Lake Placid, and a few Saranac Lakes (Lower, Middle, and Upper).
Our car broke down in Lake Placid because the transmission fluid was leaking. It was fixed within an hour and it wasn't nearly as expensive as we feared. By the time we left, many of the cars were gone and had been replaced by motorcycles.
I would have thought the lake beyond would be as much of a stop sign as you would need, but probably at night it's hard to see.
Apparently there are so many lakes that people got bored of naming them. This is Seventh Lake, I believe. Or possibly Sixth Lake. I'm not certain.
Down a dead end road.
We had intended to stay in Lake George, but we weren't the only ones with that idea. There were thousands of people there for a motorcycle rally. We had been seeing them all day, but we didn't know the rally was being held in Lake George. There was no way we would be able to find a room, so we decided to head back to Vermont.
The last day we spent in Brattleboro, VT, and in Keene, NH, before heading back. I've been to Vermont many times, but it was the first time I've been to upstate New York. I'd love to go back in better weather. (Read More..)
